  1. The coin is amazing! This is a collectable specimen, to say the least. One of his 4 kop was also amazing. I wish it were possible to get high res color photos of these 2 coins and put it in the museum here -- would be a nice point of reference...

  2. At the risk of catching sht for being negative :bgreen: , I do not buy overstruck coins anymore -- they are just too damn easy to fake. Provided this thing is original -- $1200 would prob. be a good price to sell it. I would not be surprised if it went for $1,500, given the fact that a nice collectable example (XF+) would be well over $5,000.

I, personally, would not like to pay more than $500 -600 for it (if original), but everyone knows I am a cheap bastard. :bwink: My reasoning would be -- this is not a nice enough coin to be proud of, as a part of my collection. But, at a certain price it could plug a hole untill I find a collectable example. Then, the price should be low enough, that I would be able to unload it easy. If you pay $1,200 for it, it will not be easy to unload it fast.

  3. I like Russian Novodels (Official Restrikes of Very Rare coins in MS/UNC by the mints in very limited numbers), but don't like copies / fakes / replicas etc and particularly when they are not marked as such...

I know a few guys that like novodels, and do not know anybody who admitedly like copies / fakes / replicas etc... Thus, you are not alone in this world :bgreen:

  4. I personally like novodels. I have more than a few in my collection, and will add more if I see something I like at a reasonable price. Some people say, that these are not coins, and that there is no numismatic value to them. Well, yes and no. For instance, there is at least 1 coin I can name offhand -- silver 2 rubles of Peter I that only exists in a form of a novodel struck with the original dies. Thus, the only information about that coin can be obtained from that novodel striking. Additionally, there are coins that can only be found as novodel strikings, because the originals are in museums only. One example would be an 1810 spb kopek. I would like to buy at least a novodel in that instance... But, I will not force my humble opinion on anyone. If you have a novodel and hate it, I will take it off your hands...
