Soviet Chervonetz to insane price

If you think of chervonetz, most likely you would either think of the scarce 1923 or 1977-1982 chervonetz.

Most of the time, Moscow mint was in charge of minting gold coinages and Leningrad mint occasionally minted them, but that happens only when Moscow mint is over it's capacity.

Hence, Leningrad minted Chervonetz are usually said to be worth a bit more, but again that depends on the year. Leningrad mint has definately minted them in 1977 with 1 million struck, but there are rumors that it has minted proof chervonetz in 1980, and BU coins in 1982. Appearently there are no mintage figures to state how many were struck, but they are exceeding scarce.

Needless to say, one did appear out in an auction and the price reached new height of 1728USD, when you can buy a general chervonetz at around 170usd or slightly over 1/4 oz gold bullion value :ninja:

If you have a 1982 chervonetz, check it's edge to check if you have a MMD or LMD mintmark.
