Mona Lisa?

Recommended Posts

After a few sleepless night maybe.  :ninja:

lol! Agreed. Certainly no Mona Lisa there.

The oil painting that the subject is taken from presents her a tad better than the medal. I think this is a case where the medal clearly doesn't do justice to the subject and Genevre would have best been left `sans medaille'.

This applies to quite a few cases where a painting is "reproduced" on a coin. Think Mona Lisa herself. :ninja: Leonardo's face, on the other hand, is quite interestingly done ...

Same design in gold (but the photo is a little dark - even that coin does not look all that bad actually ...) here:

I quite like the depiction of Leonardo too. Quite cleverly done IMHO. Mona Lisa however....what can I say? `It's crap'. immediately springs to mind though. :ninja:

Are French engravers trying to return to Celtic art forms? Or see who can best recreate a 3 dimensional image on a flat surface by simple line drawing? Whatever happened to having the actual images in relief I wonder?

Isn't Mona Lisa partially Leo's self-portrait?  :ninja:

I bought that `masterpiece' along with a couple of others about ten years ago. The thing that gets me is that they are issued by `Leonardi Academia' (it appears in the centre reverse).

My how Leonardo's standards have dropped.

BTW if Mona Lisa's image is partially Leonardo's self portrait, it must have been painted before something else of his dropped. ;-)
