jlueke
The December 2005 meeting of TCACC was held on Thursday the 1st. It was a show and tell session with some interesting coins and the stories behind shared by the members. There were quite a few wonderful coins displayed but for me two stories stood out and made the meeting. The first was a discussion about traveling to Egypt and the inadvisability of attempting to carry out any coins. The second was about the silver embossed coins from the collection of the Gonzagas of Italy. This subject was entirely new to me and quite interesting. Apparently the Gonzaga family collected coin back in the 15th century and had their silversmith place a small eagle on each coin. This act of defacement has now made these coins owners of the oldest known pedigree. The coin and the story behind it can also be viewed here CoinArchives
