gxseries
In my quest of finding overstruck coins, I decided to branch out into other interesting tokens. I got this token dated 1840. I don't really collect British coins, much less tokens therefore clueless about what this could have been. This is an image of the 1840 token. When viewed in an angle, there seems to be a date of 1837 (?). As of what it could have looked like originally, I would like to see what it may have been. Will post bigger photos when I get around to it. Art1.2
Interesting. The underlying lettering is fairly plain on the reverse but a larger photo would make it more readable. May have been struck over a different token.
constanius
I believe it is obverse to reverse overstruck on this, 1838 medal BHM# 1853, AE. R. AE. silvered R. 29mm. Unlisted in Br. Compare the front of the bust almost touching the 'H' of HER and the rear of the bust ends by the last 'I' of VICTORIA.
constanius
The 'C R' of CROWNED also appears to be visible on the obverse of your medal. The last 'D' of ASCENDED & the 'N' of THRONE is also visible.
gxseries
Constanius, you nailed it! Thank you! Have you seen a similar overstruck token like this?
constanius
Constanius, you nailed it! Thank you! Have you seen a similar overstruck token like this? A few from the same period, normally overstruck just a few years after being originally issued, which does makes them a bit easier to identify. They are pretty uncommon though.
