Linda
I am introducing myself as a new member and very novice coin collector. I just purchased a Dec. 19, 1757 Frederick King of Prussia coin at an antique store for $50.00. I have no idea if it's even worth that at all. I took a gamble. The coin has some good definition and has not been polished, it's almost black. Any thoughts on whether the coin is worth anything? Thank you. ccg
Hello and welcome! It sounds like you have a medal / medallion rather than a coin. If you can post some pictures, I'm certain we have some members who'd love to help you identify it!
Steve D'Ippolito
It's to the good that the coin is not polished (don't do it yourself). The condition of the coin is very important in what it's worth (far more so than the age). I'm not a specialist in Prussian at all but the ones who do know will want to see pictures of it, if you've got them. (The date jumped out at me for different reasons--in 1757 Frederick the Great was by no means called "The Great" yet; he was off to an unpromising start as he was at war with Russia and was getting his hindquarters kicked soundly. I understand that war went so badly for him at least at first, that at one point he contemplated suicide.)
