nicholasz219
These two auctions came up on Ebay and I have very little experience with Catherine II silver. These pieces are cleaned, so I know that the price range is going to be skewed downward in these examples. (I also will note that the seller has a limited selling history which doesn't help sell me these coins even as cleaned.) But what should the range be for intact coins? I am intrigued mostly because I do not see the silver pieces come up for auction that regularly. I'm also sure that they are well out of my budget, but it is nice to have the knowledge in case I come across a nice piece at the right price. Your advice is appreciated! 1769: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5335826004&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D180555458699 1784: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5335826004&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D180555460027 nicholasz219
STEVE MOULDING
The 1784 and 1769 CPB 20 Kopecks are the 2nd and 3rd most common years of the series in my experience, so no rarity premium, unfortunately. The 1769 condition is nice, despite the cleaning, and the price compared to others I've seen is even on the cheaper side. I would have thought $150-$200. The 1784 price looks reasonable. Best, Steve Thanks, Steve! I am not quite ready to dip into Catherine II silver, but having some idea of what I am looking at before I am interested in a particular coin is very helpful!
