elverno
I've always wondered. I bought it about 30 years ago from a respected dealer but I'd be curious to hear from this forum. I'm perfectly prepared for fake... (sigh) 1804 5 Kopek, Russia. 42mm - Details

If it is a fake, then it's skillfully done. What does it weigh?
elverno
Actually nothing makes me doubt it except for the remarkable fakes that are out there. What is in it's favor is how long ago I acquired it and the dealer (Superior Coins of LA). I'll try to dig out my scale and weigh it. It's quite heavy for what that's worth. About the time I picked this up I was also buying a few French medal restrikes without knowing the significance of the edge marks. My ignorance at the time has always made me look at other purchases during the same period with a little skepticism.

It could be found then at well below $50. Nobody would have counterfeited it then. Your coin doesn't look false either. Don't worry, your coin is genuine. I'm perfectly prepared for fake... (sigh) 1804 5 Kopek, Russia. 42mm - Details this one looks genuiene to me from your picture; one respectable collector once shared with me that fakes coins existed in Russia 30-50 years ago as well; if you know that cituation in Russia (Soviet Union) was not really appropriate for collecting of coins (silver and gold especially, there were a sentence for that), so whoever made fakes coins were very careful in distributing them because if cought it could have been sentenced by two counts as to for example selling a silver coin - 1, plus a coin is a fake 2; what is a connection with copper coins you may ask - direct one - if you get cought with silver coin, so home search warrant could have brought the fake coins in all metalls including rare/not rare copper pieces too
