frank
OK, this is kind of fun. There exists no longer today in Boulogne a rue Siblequin, but only a Passage Siblequin, which is also referred to as an impasse. On an online map of the city the street, which is in the old city center, looks very small indeed; it was probably reduced at some point. As for Sélègue, online I can find only one reference: Sélègue was the valet of the dandy Beau Brummell. When Brummell ran away to France to escape creditors in the early 1800's, he went thru Boulogne. Sélègue, in one account, stayed behind and invested his pay from years of service in a café, which was in the Grande Rue. What his name has to do with the Hôtel du Rhin et de Portugal, I don't know....
