elverno
1810 Pompe Funebre du Duc de Montebello, France. Bramsen 971 Laskey CXIX d'Essling 1314 68mm Marshal Lannes was one of the few people that was a personal friend of Napoleon. That wasn't as plush a job as you might expect since the three men that were personal friends all died in battle. This medal is huge and spent a good part of it's life in this box: It is not an original box as table medals of the Napoleonic era were not issued in boxes. A later collector must have had it custom made. The medal itself is definitely an original strike. The different color between the obverse and reverse is probably because it sat in the box as you see. Here's a link to the webpage for the medal. If you have the bandwidth click on the images to see hi-res photos. I purchased the medal at the Napoleonic Society of America's annual conference in New Orleans several years ago.
