You are right ccg. Great 20 cents pieces for the Straits series are rather hard to come by. You may have to pay a high price even for the common dates.

All smiles, ear to ear :yahoo:One of the best find after a long time. Straits 1935 Kg George V, 20cts in superb BU conditions. This may be a common year in the series, but in its pristine BU conditions difficult.
There are 2 variation to this coin and it lies in the year. One with a flat 3 and the other a round 3 to the year. Prices for both are the same. Searching round to find out why 2 varieties. Any answers from collectors here?
Some stats here for all.

Manage to get hold of a lower grade piece, but very scarce coin though. Total population graded by NGC currently 21 pieces
Straits Settlements King George V
Denomination : 20cts
Year : 1916B
Composition : Silver .600 fine
Mintage : 545,230

Thank you all.
The coin does kind of a reflects the supremacy of the British empire then in the region (China & Hong Kong) controlling the trade.

I've loved this series for a long time but had not taken the initiative collecting till now. A coinage minted exclusively for use in the Far East, depicting Britannia standing on shore, holding a trident in one hand and balancing a British shield in the other, with a merchant ship under full sail in the background. On the reverse, similar to the Straits Settlement's Dollar the arabesque design with the Chinese symbol for longevity in the center, and the denomination in two languages - Chinese and Jawi Malay.
My second piece of the series.
Denomination : 1 Dollar
Year : 1930B
Variety : "B" Bombay Mint
Composition : Silver .900 fine
Mintage : 10,401,032 pieces
Graded : MS-63. Total graded by NGC currently - 128 -

Straits Settlements Q Victoria

I'm rather surprise no one has posted any coins on the British Trade Dollar other then a collector DeMint who only posted a question on a 1900 year piece. Surely there must be a large number of collectors on this series which to me is very beautiful and detailing.
There is a total of 45 varieties in this series raging from Year Types, Mints and Overdates.
Year minted:1895 to 1934
3 Mints issue this series
- "B' Bombay
- "C" Calcutta
- No Mark - Londan Mint
15 Overdates
Looking forward to build a collection on this series. Here's one to start off.
Denomination : 1 Dollar
Year : 1929B
Variety : "B" Bombay Mint
Composition : Silver .900 fine
Mintage : 5,100,036 pieces (Includes Overdates)

Mintage was rather high at 23,000,000 pieces.

New addition. King George V 10 cents MS65 and the latest NGC Census for this coin.

Buying raw coins over the internet is somewhat challenging. You rely on the pictures and comments posted to describe the coin. If you need further information, you write in requesting for more detailed description of the coin and thereafter anticipate for the best once you win or buy. Well even with all that, we will still land up disappointed. Some of the coins I purchased may be disappointing, however if they are still acceptable, I will keep them, if not I will return them for a refund.

Have not been active for a while in the forum since there has not been any new materials. On a hunt though, but not very successful. Most materials are not up to grades, and some over priced substantially.
Managed to acquire two coins. One vintage Malaysia 50 sen 1968 Partial Security edge and a Straits Settlements 1908 50cts. Will share the M'sia 50 Sen today.
Malaysia 50 sen 1968 Partial Security edge is an error (A rare find) Officially these series of 50 sen coins are to be minted with Security Edges, however some were mistakenly minted in mill edges. Now, for me getting hold of a Partial Security edge, I'm delighted.
It's baffling how this can come about. These coin were minted by Royal Mint UK

Another fine example of a "Raised B". Note the prominent Dot after the Artist's signature "DES"

50 cents Queen Victoria in high grades are rare and hard to come by, as the mintage are low and its circulations are wide. Highest mintage in the series is 160,000 and the lowest 32,042.
