Belgian 2001 10 euro cent piece yesterday.
-
Local flooding after three days of rain. Also it went from 70F on Friday to 25F on Saturday. Clearly, the weather is under the weather...
-
It's raining today, and it's supposed to rain through Friday. I would *love* a thunderstorm, at least those are interesting.
-
Snow that stuck on Saturday.
70F this Thursday.
25F this coming Saturday night.
I think the weather is under the weather...

Re-sort everything into their proper places.
Take some better photos of the more interesting coins.
Drool over eBay.

Nice finds! I haven't had any CoinStar hits in a while m'self...
-
We had some snow this afternoon, but nothing stuck. I'm done with winter and ready for spring... it was 55F yesterday, and 35F today.

I like to get $2 bills and half dollar coins to make my purchase interesting for the cashier.
-
Likewise; I even use plastic for smaller purchases anymore, and even the vending machines have card readers now. It's reached the point where it feels a little weird to hand over actual legal tender.

2012 Mexican 2 peso piece. First find in a while!

Agreed -- these 'classic' commemoratives are among the reasons I'm not a huge fan of the modern ones (although I did buy the moon landing issue this year, because I'm a huge NASA nerd). These are pocket sculpture, genuine artworks. Most of the modern designs leave me flat.
What I've never been clear on is whether these coins actually circulated or not. Anyone know?
-
I can't think of any modern issues of any special rarity, although I'd be inclined to hang on to coins from 2009, especially nickels and dimes; production dropped precipitously that year.
Nickels are probably your best bet for finding older dates, followed by pennies, just because both the designs and the (apparent) metal content were unchanged for so long. Personally, I'd hang on to the wheat-back pennies (1958 and earlier), and nickels before about 1955. Keep an eye out for wartime nickels (1942-1945); those still turn up in change periodically.
Keep an eye out for S mint marks after 1974; those will almost certainly be impaired proofs, although by and large those are of more curiosity value.
And of course, dimes, quarters and halves from 1964 and before are 90% silver. Half dollars from 1965-1970 are 40% silver. Impaired proofs may or may not be silver.
Chances are pretty good you'll have a fair minority of Canadian coins and a smaller sprinkling of other foreign coins; there's just no way of predicting what to look for there, there are too many variables. All you can do is set those aside and research them later.
Happy hunting!

Ooooo, that's nice! I love that super high grade proof Ikes are so accessible.

A Netherlands 1990 5c piece, and a Monroe County NY sesquicentennial adult fare token for the local bus service. Has no one checked a Coinstar since August?
-
Gold-plated 2005P West Virginia SHQ... in a roll of dollar coins. Has no one else found anything since September 2018?
-
I'm not familiar with 'Midwest Financial' as a grader -- do you have pictures of the slabs?
-
Oooo, lovin' that Apollo token!
-
I regularly get rolls of dollars and/or quarters for the bus; haven't had a good hit in a quarter roll for a *long* time, excepting one or two bicentennial quarters in AU to AU+ condition. And of course I go through them before putting any in my pocket! I mean, it's just possible to hit something interesting. And if they've got rolls of halves, I'll always snatch up a few. Just 'cause.
But nickels, dimes and/or pennies? No, haven't done those in ages.

Late to the party again -- a belated hippie bird day!

This was about fifteen years ago, actually, at a Tim Hortons.

Don't ask....and Ikaros...shame on you!! That opens up way too many cans of different possible worms....let's just leave the reference to hockey.
And speaking of Canadians...I got a nice 1979 Canadian cent today in change.
(dons his best perfectly innocent look) 😈 (rats, didn't work again)
'Lucky Pierre', for the record, is the perfectly innocent nickname I gave the vending machine in the break room that has so far delivered two impaired proof SHQs and two 90% silver quarters. Because it has been lucky. For me. I can't help what other people think about... 🙄
-
And I have had clerks here in America think that a Kennedy half was a two-dollar coin just because they never see them.
Man, do I miss circulating halves... and Ikes.

Lucky Pierre strikes again! 1962D quarter in quite lovely condition!
