Never used it. I have used esnipe a time or two with good results.

Never owned one of those. In fact, never really owned any of the gold dollar sized coins.
-
The questionable past could make for an even more interesting collection. Maybe start with, in your opinion, the most notorious.
-
In general no. But the actual circumstances of things caused some to be placed into circulation by the banks/companies that ended up holding them after sales at the planned activities failed for whatever reason. I would imagine that the “circulation” was very limited. I have gotten Stone Mountain Commems that were obviously well circulated.

I used to have quite a fascination with Commemoratives. Such beautiful coins and usually such a sordid history to go with it. Had several books about them. One that just had the coins and a brief about each one. Beautiful pictures. And another that was like the Commemorative Tell-all book. Such scandals.

I’m with Ik on this. I used to search half dollars a lot and often came away with silver and in a number of cases commemorative coins that were unc but someone disposed of in rolls. Many banks now want you to get $2500 in halves minimum and they’re not too happy about taking them back. So having some sort of revolving plan is good. Maybe a second bank or cu to deposit the searched coins. Ditto for quarters.

Many people would have not idea what to do with such items and if they have no use for them, they are in fact, to them, trash. What a terrible fate for such beautiful items.

I love these coins and would gladly be a purchaser, but I am going in the opposite direction with my coins. I am quickly divesting myself of my entire collection. In fact I have some wonderful books that I must decide what to do with. These are all newish and expensive books that I have enjoyed and was often glad that I had. Used them for reference often. Now to find good homes for them. Not my highest priority task for sure but important.

My that is beautiful. I love the Rand on these coins. Used to have a few Krugerands back in my earlier life.

Very nice. A beautiful coin and great addition to your collection.

Nice to add these. I’m sure we have some who have these notes in their collections.

No time like the present. Welcome!

Art, I really want to make my own coin collection holder but I know the materials have to be selected carefully. The wood, the finish, the felt, etc.
So true. Materials and finishes at every step of the process need to be carefully controlled. Then after that we have the environment. Humidity, temperature, sunlight, etc. For example the “coin cabinets” employed in the 19th and 20th Century often resulted in pieces being toned but also scratched from friction. Even safeguarding pieces in a Bank vault is fraught with problems. OH MY! What to do!

Great looking coin! Enjoy it!

It seems to me that as the general interest in collecting wanes, the need grows for the ability to produce custom displays like the wonder albums we see here. Of course and advantage would be that the coins could be safely stored in inert materials and safe locations while being beautifully displayed in a number of “collector” arrangements.

Good looking pennies. There has always been something special, to me, about Indian Head Cents. I can still recall, though rarely, getting one in change. Things like Mercury Dimes, Buffalo Nickels, Standing Liberty Quarters and yes, even, half dollars fell into that catagory.

Since you didn’t have them before you began this job, just leave them stacked somewhere and go through a handful at a time over many months. Perhaps you’ll gain interest that way and become a collector.
-
OH! I know that I’m going to bid on this. So I might as well get rolling.
OPENING BID: $12.75.

Proof Ikes can be beautiful coins. This one looks to fit that grouping. I especially enjoy the reverse on these big hunks of metal. I wish you the very best with your auction Colin.

I hope that you and Rina enjoy this terrific day. No work!!!! That alone is cause to celebrate.

This is an extremely quiet place. Once in a while the natives stir and post a lot for a day or two. It’s so good to see you here. Congrats on the quarter set.

Syl,
That’s a beautiful coin and a marvelous set you’ve put together. Congrats. I’m glad that you have enjoyed the process.

I know that it is very discouraging and I think that unfortunately there is not solution to most of the problems you mentioned.
