sidney
I'm rather surprise no one has posted any coins on the British Trade Dollar other then a collector DeMint who only posted a question on a 1900 year piece. Surely there must be a large number of collectors on this series which to me is very beautiful and detailing. There is a total of 45 varieties in this series raging from Year Types, Mints and Overdates. Year minted:1895 to 1934 3 Mints issue this series - "B' Bombay - "C" Calcutta - No Mark - Londan Mint 15 Overdates Looking forward to build a collection on this series. Here's one to start off. Denomination : 1 Dollar Year : 1929BVariety : "B" Bombay MintComposition : Silver .900 fineMintage : 5,100,036 pieces (Includes Overdates)Graded : MS-63. Art1.2
Beautiful coin Sidney. It's a terrific series. I love the design. Strange to say that I do not have even one in my collection. I'm not sure why.

sidney
I've loved this series for a long time but had not taken the initiative collecting till now. A coinage minted exclusively for use in the Far East, depicting Britannia standing on shore, holding a trident in one hand and balancing a British shield in the other, with a merchant ship under full sail in the background. On the reverse, similar to the Straits Settlement's Dollar the arabesque design with the Chinese symbol for longevity in the center, and the denomination in two languages - Chinese and Jawi Malay. My second piece of the series. Denomination : 1 Dollar Year : 1930BVariety : "B" Bombay MintComposition : Silver .900 fineMintage : 10,401,032 pieces Graded : MS-63. Total graded by NGC currently -
thedeadpoint
Sidney, I had never appreciated the imagery probably meant to convey peace but dominance.
ccg
It is a lovely series indeed. I very seldom encounter pieces of this series in my part of the world, though.

sidney
Thank you all. The coin does kind of a reflects the supremacy of the British empire then in the region (China & Hong Kong) controlling the trade.
sidney
Feeling happy today. Managed to get hold of a over-date coin in a local auction. Over-dated coins are quite scarce, and the numbers are unknown making hunting fun. Denomination : 1 Dollar Year : 1910 Over 1900BVariety : "B" Bombay MintComposition : Silver .900 fineMintage : Unknown : 1900B - 9,106,019 pieces : 1910B - 5,552,910 piecesGraded : GEF - AU Close-up of the over-date. You can still make out "0" outline.

ikaros
Has to wait until there is no hole in my budget! I have Hamvention in two weeks, and then I have to pick up tickets to the Senior Open, which is being played here this year -- I get to see the guys my age play, hitting a golf ball the way it's supposed to be hit! Should be interesting -- John Daly just turned 50, wonder if he can get it together on that tour. He still bangs it a mile.
