Each year Germany issues a €2 coin dedicated to one of the 16 German states; the series started this year with the Schleswig-Holstein coin featuring the Holstentor in Lübeck. The 2007 coin (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) shows the castle in Schwerin, the 2008 coin (Hamburg) features the Michaeliskirche in Hamburg, and 2009 (Saarland) shows the Ludwigskirche in Saarbrücken.
