Slovenia: Coins from Finland, Dual Pricing

The Slovenian euro and cent circulation coins will be minted in Finland. Rahapaja Mint of Finland had already won an earlier competition regarding the production of the Estonian pieces, but Slovenia is probably the only country that can actually introduce the euro on 1-Jan-2007 and thus needs the coins by that date.

That website also has an article about the dual pricing plan in Slovenia: In about four weeks (as from 1 March) prices for many products have to be displayed in tolar and euro. As long as the final SIT-EUR rate has not been fixed yet, the euro prices are "informative" only.

If you want to pick the SIT coins up from circulation, yes, you had better hurry up. They will of course continue to be available from coin dealers after the introduction of the euro. But those will charge more than face ...

 

One big difference between the changeover in the first euro countries and the "switch" in Slovenia next year is that there won't be a long transition period: Instead of having more than three years between the introduction of the euro and the € cash being the sole legal tender, Slovenia and other future euro countries plan a "big bang" scenario. So assuming that Slovenia introduces the euro on 1-Jan-2007 (that date is likely but not official yet), the tolar would be history in about a year from now.
