centsdimes
Soon after I began collecting coins in the 60's, I came under the impression that the one true way to grade coins was to use the ANA Grading Standards book. I still believe that. What is the difference between their standards and other standards, such as those used by PCGS?
thedeadpoint
Very good question. I assume that the PCGS ones are even more rigorous - they could tell you exactly which hairs you would expect to see on a forehead for a certain grade, etc.

Art1.2
I've started a reply to this really good question a few times but stopped each time because I find that I'm just going from my opinion on things and haven't found anything hard to back that opinion. Maybe I'll go ahead with it anyway.
