neighbor lady
Hi all, I am new to this forum, and I have a medal I would like to ask for help identifying and if possible to see if it has any value. It is a gold colored medal about 1 and 9/16 across, it has a Dachshund head on the one side and the reverse is inscribed as follows: Kampioen, Teckel reu, Rotterdam, 7en8 Novb, 1925, and is signed Oertel Berlin under the dogs head. It weighs 24 grams, it does not seem to be magnetic(I dont have a really strong magnet) and it does sink in a glass of water. I have been able to find a fair bit of info Oertel Berlin, but past that, we have no history of the medal, other than it being given to my husband by his grandfather. It may possibly be something he acquired during the war, but we dont know for sure. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks Neighbor Lady
schutzenfester
The inscription translates as " Champion Dachshound dog, Rotterdam, 7th & 8th November, 1925.
neighbor lady
Thanks for the translation! Now if I could figure out if it is gold or just a wash, and if it has a value….
schutzenfester
If it was gold it would almost certainly be marked in some way. It is likely a gold gilt medal that was an award at the Rotterdam Dog Show.
