RuslanK
Good evening Sigistenz!Nice to meet You.I recently started to collect exactly 5 kopeks of Catherine II.First my Nickel I bought in 2011 it beat simple 5 kopecks 1791 EAT.Don't know why I did it but I was hooked, something drew thisnickle:) mostly I collected regular commemorative coins of the USSR, modern commemorative coins. But a year ago I came to the thought that I don't feel satisfaction from my collection and is completely sold it. And began to pay special attention to large copper coins. And began to focus their attentionon the nickels of Catherine II, then actually became acquainted with Your website, which in its kind like this one where so clearly demonstrated by the great number of coins, and took a sample. So I got this very nice disease I'm sorry I don't speak English, have to use a translator, and he in my opinion is not always correctly translate.. But nevertheless I am happy to chat with You and happy to our acquaintance. Pictured is my first coin Which occupies a worthy place in my modest little collection. P.S. Sigistenz it would be very interesting to see Your first 5 kopeks Catherine II Thank you very much.Sincerely,Ruslan
sigistenz
Hello Ruslan, welcome in this forum, it is nice to meet a real Russian! I think most of us Russia collectors in this forum live in the West. You are right, computer translations are not always correct - to say the least. "Nickel" is an expression for the American 5 cent coin which is made from copper-nickel. A 5 kopek may be called pyatak in this forum, everybody would understand. A nice disease you say, but it can become chronic like in my case Your 1791EM is nice, thank you for showing it. As to my very first 5 kopek (the cause of it all) - I cannot show it, I sold it long ago because I had found a nicer one to replace it. Happy hunting! Sigi . sigistenz
Hello Ruslan, don't clean your coin. It looks good. Cleaning woulfd spoil it. I am searching the coins still misssing with me, for example 5 kopeks 1764 СПМ, 5 kopeks 1767 СМ, 5 kopek 1788 TM, and so on. How are you doing? Please show us what you find. Regards, Sigi . RuslanK
Good day Sigistenz!I am now more focused on the search of early years still in very good condition Ekaterinburg mint.Unfortunately they very rarely come across, but at the same time, I believethe harder it is to find a particular coin, it is more desirable and the road. And have great fun once you find it. Sigi thinks You shouldn cleaned pyatak with herbs?I wanted to give it to a professional for cleaning.Sincerely,Ruslan
RuslanK
Sigistenz wanted to ask You about the monogram where the upper curl of the letter E is located above the letter I. How do you often come across such options? And how do you think this option is a mistake of the Carver stamp?Or is it kind of how to classify these variants? As far as I know the directories are not specified, if I'm not mistaken.I have one pyatak 1786 EM (photo)Thank you.Sincerely,Ruslan
sigistenz
Ruslan, I am sorry, I confused your coins. Your first coin, the 1791, should not be cleaned. Your second coin however, the 1780, is problematic. If you remove the green verdigris, the nice brown patina will go away, too. AND instead of the green verdigris, you might find a rough surface, a bit like the surface of the moon I ruined more than one coin and now keep away from green coins. I do not like to buy trouble any more. The monogram on Catherine's coins has normally the top of the "E" under the "I". Sometimes it is the other way round. I watch coins for that. I do not know if any guidebook mentinons this difference. Your 1786 is VERY nice . Congratulations ! Best, Sigi -
RuslanK
Thanks, Sigi! For the future, 'll take that into consideration and take into accountI will try not to mess with these coins. Well, it is still have to clean, can stillat least something from it, good will come of it. The result then definitely will show. Thanks for Your very valuable advice.Sincerely,Ruslan
