Koko
In my collection I happened to find 1898 Russian 10 Gold roubles coin. According to the Standard Catalog of World Coins, the mintage is only 200,000 compared to over 27 million for 1899 10 Roubles gold coin. Of course, that makes 1898 coin rare, but not super-rare. Would any of you know how many 1898 there may be left (out of 200,000)? It appears that 1899 coins are sold in a range of 300-400USD but I cannot find ANY 1898 coins for sale anywhere on the net. Thus, it is really hard to estimate the value of this 1898 find. Any ideas on this? Thanks! Koko

Thus, it is really hard to estimate the value of this 1898 find. Any ideas on this? Welcome to Coin People, Koko! The mintage figure for 1898 ten rouble gold coins was 2,390,013 according to the new Kazakov catalog. But Rylov/Sobolin, Bitkin and Adrianov also list the 200,000 figure. However, if you compare the prices listed there, you see that there is no difference in price -- which should not be the case if it were really a scarce coin. You might find one on auctions listed on http://sixbid.com. You can search the completed auctions, or better yet go to the home page of the auction house (Künker sells many Russian coins, for example, as does Gorny & Mosch) and search the archives there.
