Jefferson Nickel

In my vast collection of coins that I have put aside I have a 1984p Jefferson Nickel that appears to have been gold plated.

My husband believes it is one he received in change in a restuarant in Pittsburgh PA about 1984 or a year or two later.

The coin looks extremely fresh, and I would guess it would pass as about uncirculated, having only about 6 minor hopper dings for reverse and obverse combined.

Does anyone recall any company making gold plated coins for that year?

Could be a special event coin.

My husband doesn't remember what he told me when he got home from his visit... he said an Italian restuarant in Pittsburgh was giving them out in change. After all this time he cannot remember which place... really doesn't remember the coin.

It being plated it probably cannot be considered a good candidate for a serious nickel collection piece.

Thanks,

Corky
