akdrv
As crises go, this one is pretty small change, but the government has discovered that the metal in 1-cent and 5-cent pieces is now worth more than the face value of the coins. "Right now, the penny is worth more than a penny, and a nickel is worth more than a nickel,"' said Christopher Cipoletti, executive director of the American Numismatic Association, one of several national associations of coin collectors. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c...AGDVN00ID16.DTL
Dockwalliper
More trouble for Angel. And travelers can take only $5 worth of nickels and pennies out of the country. The regulations also provide that individuals can export no more than $100 in nickels and pennies outside the United States in any one shipment "for legitimate coinage and numismatic purposes." Dockwalliper
"...the money had been changed: the quarter-dollar coin lost its silver. The nickel stopped being nickel." Not true....The nickel is the same today as it was in the 1800's.
