Is the penny the same size across as a regular penny? Just wondering if it didn't get stricken has hard and didn’t flatten out.

I guess you call it a planchet, but if it doesn't fit... or not exactly the same size of the penny, that, I don't know.

I did the same thing - I was ready to here about a black penny!

So, I wonder if there is a formula for square building... I will have to get my excel working and do some math...

I gave it a MS60, but I would be willing to go higher if I could see the 3rd side of the coin.

Been there and done that! I had a bunch of pennies left over from a 5 gallon jar that sat in our family store for years. People would drop their extra pennies in there. I spent two winter going through there and found only a few good coins

My advice:

1. Get a 3-5x lens (I think my eyes got worse looking at all those pennies)

2. Do this in the winter night - summer is for being outside!!

3. When you are done with a few pounds - take them to the bank; don't do it all at once! They get a little upset when you walk in with $200 in copper.

But, when I have to do all the work - it's Lincolns! I want to get a full set of BUs before the 100 year aniversary in 2009. It's going to cost a mint to get that BU 1909 S VDB! ....and the 1911D... and 1914...and... Can I borrow some money!

I'm thinking that after this one is complete and we get toward the end of the summer, I'll kick off an 05 Short Snorter. Keep watching -- it's coming.
