Hi, I'm very new at this and someone suggested I post some photos to get feedback. A few years ago a guy offered me $75 for a Wisconsin extra leaf only to find out people were getting hundreds for them. So I'm trying g to avoid that happening again. I have several error coins that I'd love any input on, as far as approx value and best places to list for sale. Any help at all is appreciated! To give an idea, I'm uploading a 1992 D dbl die Obv and Rev. I am also posting several more with pictures and descriptions of them. Thanks for any help. Jennifer

I'm looking for advice on error coin values. A few years ago I was offered $75 for a Wisconsin extra leaf and then found out it was selling for hundreds and I'm trying to avoid that again. I'm having an impossible time uploading photos but for example I have several other error coins that I think could have some value (ie 1992 D Lincoln cent dbl die on obv and reverse, NY state Quarter with a dbl arm, a state Quarter D completely missing reverse piece, 1953 nickel near leaf and shoulder fold, etc)

If anyone can give me another way to load photos (without getting error msgs) I'd appreciate it. Thanks for any advice. Jennifer

Hi, I have been collecting error coins but not sure how to proceed from here. I had a Wisconsin extra leaf Quarter a few years ago and was offered $75 for it and later found out it was going for hundreds of dollars! So now I'm trying to avoid something like that again. I'm attaching one of the coins I have that I think could be somewhat valuable (dbl die obv and reverse) and hope the more experienced people out there can give me an idea of what I may be looking at. I also have a NY state quarter (P) that the arm holding the torch is dbld.

Thanks for the response and also for suggesting that I post some photos with info. That's what I wanted to do but since this is the first time I've joined a coin forum, I wasnt sure it it would be cool of me to just do it, without someone suggesting it or giving permission. I'm not quite sure how all this works, but I'm sure itll be easy enough!

I have a variety of errors (or what I believe to be errors based on doing a lot of reading up on the varieties and try to always look for many samples to compare with what I have.

All my coins are US coins except for one, which is a 1953 Canadian nickel and I believe the one I have is "near leaf" and "with shoulder strap". The US coins vary from Lincoln cents, Jefferson nickels, roosevelt dimes, and both original Washington quarters and state quarters.  I also have several Lincoln cents 1970 s with what I believe are both high and low. Some errors are (at least I think they are. . .) Incomplete strike? Where only part of the face is clear, a double earlobe on a 1969 Lincoln cent,  a 1995 Lincoln cent with the words "in God we trust" only seen in trust, 1992 Lincoln cent possible DD obverse and partial on Reverse. This just gives you an idea of the coins I have and will be posting asap

I started taking pictures of them but I think I'm gonna havta work at taking better photos with more clarity etc. I will work on getting these pics done this week and get them posted as soon as possible and maybe start getting feedback from the more experienced people like yourself lol.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I've always been interested in error coins. Over the past couple of years I have found couns that I think may be errors (a variety of types) and recently been interested in getting someone to evaluate them a give me approximate values. But after getting pricing info on the top 2 coin appraisals companies, it seems a little pricey, especially for a beginner. 

A few years ago I had an extra leaf Wisconsin quarter, and not realizing the high values on them, some guy at a local coin shop said he could give me $75 for it. When I found out how much I COULD'VE gotten for it, I was so mad at myself!

I'm wondering if this forum is a place where I could post some pictures of what I have and get some feedback from more experienced people as to what they think?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks for that advice. I've been doing a lot of research online about the various error coins. I guess for me, I'm concerned that the errors I KNOW are errors, such as a double lettering on both obverse and reverse (as well as the date) and what I believe is a double earlobe, are valuable enough to spend the money on grading. Also, I have a state Quarter that has absolutely NO reverse piece whatsoever (there's a bronze colored thin disc which I assume is the piece that is placed between the front and back of any coin) so I have no idea what year it is or which state Quarter it is. I'm  not sure if that qualifies it as an error and if so, how much value it holds. I don't mind sending in all my "error" coins for professional grading and valuation but I've heard if your coins are not worth $150 then it's not worth having it done. I've learned what the various errors are (clipped planchet, double die, etc) but sometimes I wonder, if I think I have a coin that has one of the errors, am I mistaken or is it a true error. I was wondering if there are any websites or forums that I can go to and post pictures of my coins to see what kind of feedback I get. That way I'll have a better idea of if I should submit them to a place such as PCGS for a formal grading and valuation.  Thank you for your suggestion on getting some books on errors. I think I will pick one or two up so I have something for reference.
