Damn, it blew me away, those "graders" handeling those coins w/o gloves.

Dave say's PCGS is the #1 TPG, I don't think that will be true long!

I was told none of the TPG graders wear gloves because it causes clumziness when handling the coins???!!?

I know that!!!!! But why? Is it just taken for granted that all Franklin Proofs are FBL? Or is it taken for granted that all Franklin Proofs are NOT FBL??

Hi Gump! You found the right spot. Proofs? Someone already mentioned about the RedBook. It's a great reference. It tells you about proofs in there. Proof refers to the method of manufacture. There purpose is...well whatever you decide!!

Thank-you, thank-you for mentioning stamps. I too started out with both coins and stamps. I am now getting back into my stamp collection. When I think back to what I learned from stamps I marvel. All, the different countries, and how they spell them, not just the English language way. I did see/hear this recently. Stamp collectors still out number coin collectors by far because of the large following around the world of stamps depicting Disney characters!

Do you normally pay the dealer's asking price? Or do you make an offer? Is there a price cutoff? Like $1.00 to $100..heck with it, $101 to $1000..maybe, and anything over $1000..it's quite possible.

I put on my coin collecting want list to go to coin shows outside the U.S. So, some how some way I'm going to one somewhere before the year is over.

I didn't see any price quotes for Trends' price on the item I looked at. That seems to be popping up lately.

For the past six months I have become more intrigued with circulated coins. I was always shooting for the best mint state coin I could find and afford. Especially blast white Morgans with super cartwheels. Now, my favorite grades are EF45 and AU50. The marks and wear for those two grades just seem to fit. So, I sold most of my blaster Morgans.

Now, my favorite coin in my collection is a 1893-S Morgan in G6. Thank goodness their were people who had reason to preserve some 89-S Morgans in mint state. But the real thrill for me now is owning a mintage rare (100,000) Morgan that was actually put into circulation. And survived it's "trip" to become a Good-6!

I'm hooked! My next favorite coin is a 1909-S VF Lincoln.

Awhile back we had a Redbook thread going. I have a 1963 with mis-numbered pages that I found out was worth a little more money now than one with the right numbered pages. Here's the prices for a 09-S VDB listed:

Good 70.00

Fine 90.00

V.F. 95.00

E.F. 105.00

Unc. 165.00

I was in 4th and 5th grade in 1963. If my Dad had given me $165 back then to buy a Unc., I would have gone and bought a bunch of cool toys. Like some Army men and a throw glider and stuff. Who wants and old, stupid 09-S VDB anyway! This is my favorite price from the 1963 Redbook. 1893-S Morgan: Ex Fine 125.00 Unc 1,200.00 !!!!! WOW.

What a nice thing to hear. Seems about this time last year all the reports from medium to small size local shows were dismal. Poor attendance and no show dealers with a lot of the show-ups leaving early. Sign of the times??

One thing I forgot to mention is there is NO buyer's premium in these auctions. And they are just plain fun. I won a 1893-S Morgan that's a VG-8 or very close for $1,750.00 And it's problem free with a second opinion!---sent it to another dealer after I got it.
