  1. My favorite acquisition during the last year occurred when I set up a card table in my front yard and covered it with about seventy juvenile paperbacks. A sign offered "free books." I was relaxing and reading a western novel in German when a lady selected some of the books and a conversation developed. When I mentioned what I collect, she gave me four recent banknotes from Serbia. She had visited relatives there and had some leftover money she didn't have time to spend at the airport. My expectation is to find a coin from Transylvania in one of the "five for a dollar" boxes at a nearby flea market. For the last two years I have always bought dozens of coins on each trip and gotten six for a dollar. The odds are greatly against me. My next free merchandise table will display trading cards for baseball and football. The local market for these is extremely depressed now. No job is so simple it can't be done wrong.
  2. I just joined Coin People today but I've been selling coins at yard sales for many years. It is a good way to meet other collectors and arrange trades besides bringing in cash. Many people who do not claim to be collectors will buy an interesting coin as a conversation piece and sometimes for the art of the design or even just because it is over 100 years old. I've met many people who only want a single coin from every country and this has recently become my specialty. It is a real challenge finding coins from the hard to get countries. My sales are made from a book with two dozen 20 pocket pages for 2 buy 2 coin holders. Each coin is individually priced and identified. Sometimes this is extremely challenging. My very old Krause catalog helps tremendously. My yard sales and occasional flea markets feature comic books, hat and lapel pins, toys, books, tools and one of a kind junk. I would like to compare notes with other amateur and part time coin sellers.
