  1. In response to 16d. How does one coin go about getting bumped from an XF to, I think, a PF60 ( Regarding the 1894S Dime ).. Just curious ... I have a 1995W Silver American Eagle .. that appears to have been cleaned ( Why They would do such a thing ? ) ....

    Thanks ...

  2. ART,

Great write ups on the MPC's .. Do you collect any of the current military change /certificates issued to our freedom fighters overseas ???

The first issue of POGs that were used for monetary purposes· were released at AAFES facilities in Afghanistan at the beginning of 2002. They were valid at all AAFES facilities, but they do not have legal tender status and are issues of the AAFES and not of the Department of Defense itself (as were MPCs). Unlike MPCs all POGs issued to date have remained valid, and thus far there have been no C-days. Also unlike MPCs personnel are not paid in POGs. Thus

they function as light-weight small-change tokens, and they are used to make small purchases and to provide change at AAFES facilities. Once brought back to the states and used at any AAFES Facilities, they are destroyed.

  3. Fellow Collectors .... AAFES POGS are still being used. Due to the issue of the Eagle Cash Card, you are seeing less and less of the Pogs. They have created quite the rush on Ebay also .. Some Single Pogs going from 35 cents to over 100.00 dollars.. 6th Printing Dimes, total $1.20 sold for $425.00 .... If you know of someone that might be interested .... please pass my info on to them. Thanks for the read.

AAFES POGS are coin like military pay. They were created for use at AAFES stores serving troops deployed in contingency operations. map-where-issued.jpg Though they are only issued as change downrange, they are also accepted at AAFES stores worldwide. They have become quite the collector item. POGS were made from 2001 thru 2011. 15 different printings. 497 different POGS.. Something for everyone ...

  6. @swest>>> I have been collecting since 1986... Back in the day when silver was low I would buy a roll of eagles and I would always have one in my Pocket for Luck. Currently I have all but one of the eagles, UNC and Proof , a few graded... The only one I am missing is the GEM 1995W Proof. They are a thing of beauty and I know your Boys will enjoy those coins. Good Luck with the Set and future collecting .....

  7. Regards to putting together the set, I know I want to try and get the highest grade possible, however at this point , I am just looking to fill some holes. Any suggestions on certains dates , which ones to hold off on till the hiher grade can be obtained ??? Thanks for your time ....

  8. This coin is likely XF-AU -- the "wear" is actually on the dies and not the coin itself -- note the difference in the Lincoln's head from this piece and an AG or G other coin. These 1922 cents were the result of a focus by the powers that were in Philadelphia to bang out the new Peace Dollar -- the Denver Mint was left with an order to still produce another half-million cents -- but no new cent dies would be forthcoming! In effect, 'make due with what you have'! The old dies were polished, over-polished, cracking, disintegrating -- the wheat stalks were 'mushing' into the rims, and in some cases the mint mark was even lost. That being the case, the Denver Mint would have been aware that their desperation to fill their order for cents was causing a coin with no mint-mark at some point -- making the '22 'plain' or 'no-D' a VARIETY and not an ERROR...back to the coin -- note the detail of Lincoln's head - the separations between beard, cheekbone and forehead - on a worn coin these are essentially flattened together. Also note the deterioration of Lincoln's shoulder as the die was breaking up and the loss of lettering and detail on the flatter surfaces...the letters RTY and TRUST were reportedly re-engraved -- desperate times certainly produced desperate measures...this coin says it all.....

So dew appreciate this site ! So much to learn in regards to coins overall ... Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
