  1. Later, after college, I went back to said small town and asked a couple of elderly gentlemen who had been regular customers if they had been "priming the pump" so to speak and seeking a new collector. Never could get either to admit it but I still think so.

I now do the same thing. It is really cool to see the look when you spend a large cent or cull silver. Who knows...maybe the next Bustchaser is out there right now.

  2. Having come across that debate before on RCC that's why i stated i thought it was a test cut. I went and had a look on Reid's site thinking he might have an explanation for it, but alas none to be found.

Uh oh now you've done it. You went and used the "R" (eid) word! :ninja:

  3. This was the Cardinal collection of bust dollars....(plus a nice selection of early gold).

If you are even the LEAST interested in early U.S. dollars you have to check out Martin's (Cardinal's) site. He is THE MAN when it comes to these beauties.

By the way, I got totally blown out of the water on my bids :ninja: which of course I expected. ;)

  4. 5300 for the VF 1794 half that I pictured in the thread on half dollar type sets. I have crossed the 4 figure mark several times for different Overton varieties. This past winter I placed my first 5 figure bid on a coin but wasn't lucky enough to win it. (Or I was lucky enough NOT to win it!)

  5. Do you have the large cent (the 1817 isn't Reich)? You thinking about getting some of the gold examples?

    thx for sharing

Opps, caught that did you? :ninja:

As for gold, even if I had the money I just don't like gold coins (or gold anything else for that matter) so I won't be adding any.

  6. Great coins and a great idea for a type set. I really like the bust coins...as if you couldn't tell by my handle. :ninja:

I hadn't ever thought about calling this subset a type set but it is interesting.

Here are a few of mine.
