  1. Later, after college, I went back to said small town and asked a couple of elderly gentlemen who had been regular customers if they had been "priming the pump" so to speak and seeking a new collector. Never could get either to admit it but I still think so. I now do the same thing. It is really cool to see the look when you spend a large cent or cull silver. Who knows...maybe the next Bustchaser is out there right now. Jim
  2. Growing up in the 60's and working as an automotive fueling specialist (gas pump jockey), I often received obsolete coins that dated back to seated Liberties and occasionally even a bust coin or two. (In fact, this is what got me started on bust halves.)
  3. Uh oh now you've done it. You went and used the "R" (eid) word! Jim
  4. The ruble. I actually prefer the Cromwell portait but the Russian piece doesn't look as "goldy" Jim
  5. I still cannot force myself to vote for a bi-metalic.
  6. the 1857...too much gold toning on the 1882. (Of course, I think that ANY gold coloring is too much!)
  7. Well, I have shown them before (don't think the thread made it accross) but it's a holiday here in the U.S. and I am feeling sorry for myself and missing my wife so here are a few pretty coins she bought me over the years.
  8. Not an error. (sigh, here we go again!) Jim
  9. This was the Cardinal collection of bust dollars....(plus a nice selection of early gold). The results for the auction can be seen here.Cardinal/ A Gentleman's Collection auction results If you are even the LEAST interested in early U.S. dollars you have to check out Martin's (Cardinal's) site. He is THE MAN when it comes to these beauties. Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation By the way, I got totally blown out of the water on my bids which of course I expected. Jim
  10. 5300 for the VF 1794 half that I pictured in the thread on half dollar type sets. I have crossed the 4 figure mark several times for different Overton varieties. This past winter I placed my first 5 figure bid on a coin but wasn't lucky enough to win it. (Or I was lucky enough NOT to win it!) Jim
  11. Opps, caught that did you? Try this one. As for gold, even if I had the money I just don't like gold coins (or gold anything else for that matter) so I won't be adding any. Jim
  12. Great coins and a great idea for a type set. I really like the bust coins...as if you couldn't tell by my handle. I hadn't ever thought about calling this subset a type set but it is interesting. Here are a few of mine. Jim
  13. Not if it is going to continue to be a Sac...the second worst looking coin design in U.S. history. (right behind another dollar coin--the Morgan.)
  14. Any of them with the exception of Morgans and Sacies (but I voted flowing hair)
  15. You have a beautiful bust coin facing off against a hunk of silver bullion that calls itself a coin. No contest. Jim
