Mark Stilson
1989 P quarter lamination error circulation find. Bubbles are not lined up behind each other. Up for ideas about the texture. If there were gas trapped in the plating and someone bead blasted it. Would it heat up and expand enough to cause the bubbles? Any other ideas? I mean I would love if it came like this from the mint. But I kind of doubt it. Larger pictures posted.
buzkirk
A guess on my part, it went thru a fire and caused the bubble then was sand blasted or chemically etched to remove the burnt residue. Entirely speculation, but have similar burnt coins with bubbles.
Art1.2
I'm guessing along with Tom on this one. Fire then chemical or sand refinishing. It's an interesting problem.
Dockwalliper
When I tumble my detecting finds they get this same sand blast finish.
