Hey fellow collectors! I’ve recently been diving deeper into my collection, and I’m particularly drawn to the ‘First Strike’ coins. There’s just something special about that designation, isn’t there?
One of my favorites has to be the 2021 American Silver Eagle I scored at a local coin show. It’s graded MS70, and just looking at it gives me that thrill. The detail on the Eagle is absolutely stunning, and it feels like holding a piece of history. I remember doing quite a bit of research before purchasing, especially about the significance of ‘First Strike’ and the demand these coins have. It made me appreciate it even more when I finally got it into my hands!
So, I’d love to hear from you all! What are your favorite ‘First Strike’ coins? Do you have any interesting stories about where or how you found them? Any tips for someone looking to add to their collection? Looking forward to hearing your experiences!
Great topic, @CoinEnthusiast99! My favorite ‘First Strike’ coin is the 2020 American Silver Eagle, graded MS69. I was at a coin auction where I got it for a steal! I remember the auctioneer announcing it, and my heart raced trying to outbid the competition. The rush of getting it was exhilarating! The coin itself is beautifully struck with brilliant luster. It feels like I’m holding a piece of art. For anyone new to collecting, I recommend checking out detailed guides on sites like PCGS; it really helped me understand the value of ‘First Strike’ coins.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the 2019-W American Silver Eagle ‘First Strike’. It holds a special place in my collection because my father gifted it to me on my birthday. It’s graded MS70, and the detail is simply breathtaking. It was also one of the first coins he ever bought after getting serious about coin collecting. I love how these coins not only hold value but have sentimental meaning as well. Anyone else have a story like this?

That’s really touching, @NumismaticNerd! Coins with a story always feel more valuable. My favorite is the 2022 Silver Libertad ‘First Strike’ that I found unexpectedly at a local coin shop. The owner had no idea about its value, and I got it for way below market! I couldn’t believe my luck. It’s now graded MS68 and looks fantastic in my display case. Anyone else had any lucky finds?

I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘First Strike’ designation! My personal favorite is the 2021 Type 2 American Silver Eagle. It’s not just beautiful but also significant as it marks a well-loved design change. I love how informed the community is! I’m always looking to expand my collection, any suggestions on how to score ‘First Strike’ coins? @CoinEnthusiast99, what do you think?

Great point, @CollectorChic! The 2021 Type 2 is indeed a beauty! I suggest attending local coin shows and networking with other collectors. Sometimes dealers have ‘First Strike’ coins but don’t always advertise them. Also, check online stores like NGC for any upcoming auctions or sales.

For my money, the 2018 American Innovation Dollars ‘First Strike’ are so underrated! I was lucky enough to get a complete set. It was a long journey to complete the collection, but every piece is unique and has a story behind it. Has anyone else taken a dive into the Innovation Dollars? I think more people should appreciate them!

Agreed, @CoinCollector87! The Innovation Dollars have great potential! I’ve been trying to grab a few harder-to-find ‘First Strike’ quarters as well. It seems like they tend to fly under the radar. I think once more collectors become aware, the prices will spout upwards. Have you checked completed auctions on eBay? That’s where I find a lot of mine.

Thanks for the tips, @CoinEnthusiast99! Networking has been so valuable in my own collecting journey as well. It’s led me to some amazing finds. The thrill of a true ‘First Strike’ is unbeatable. What’s the craziest deal you all have ever snagged on a first strike coin?

Great question, @CoinAdventurer! The craziest deal I ever got was a 2018-W American Silver Eagle ‘First Strike’ graded MS69. I found it at a small estate sale for just $15! I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it in the box of old coins. I felt like I’d hit the jackpot! I’m sure many can relate, but can you share a similar story? It’s fascinating to hear these experiences!

Wow, such great stories in this thread! My favorite ‘First Strike’ has to be the 2021 Bronze Medal. It’s not a coin per sé, but it was given to me at a veterans’ event, and it means the world to me. It reminds me of the stories my grandfather told about serving in the military. Is anyone else captivated more by the stories behind their coins rather than their market value?

Collecting coins is about passion and not just the monetary value! My favorite ‘First Strike’ was a gift from my grandmother, and it’s a 1999 Silver Proof Set. She always told me stories of how she collected coins and the adventures she had. It gave me this love for coins! I think we should all remember that collecting is about cherishing moments and memories. What stories do others have? Let’s keep this thread alive!

Love that perspective, @HistoryBuff78! My mom also passed down her coin collection to me, which included a 1964 Silver Dollar ‘First Strike’. I cherish it as it represents our family’s history and the traditions we shared. It’s important to realize the emotional weight these coins can carry. Does anyone else have family pieces that mean a lot to them?
