Hey fellow collectors! I’ve recently found myself pondering the market value of end rolls from the past decade. I came across a few rolls of modern quarters and dimes that I originally grabbed just to complete my collection. However, the current market trends have me curious if these could actually appreciate in value.
From my research, I learned that while many collectors are primarily interested in pre-1960 coins, there seems to be a growing fascination with modern issues as well, especially as they become rarer in circulation. I noticed some recent sales of end rolls on auction sites going for more than I expected, particularly those with unique mint marks or errors.
What do you all think? Are end rolls from the last decade worth holding onto, or should I just keep them as filler in my collection? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any experiences you’ve had with modern rolls. Do you see potential value in them, or is it just a passing trend?
Hey everyone! Excited to hear your insights on this topic. I agree that while many collectors may focus on older coins, the demand for modern issues seems to be on the rise. Looking forward to your thoughts!

The market for end rolls can be quite unpredictable, but I believe there is potential value, especially if you have rolls that contain unique mint marks or errors. I recently participated in an auction where a roll of 2020 quarters with a notable error sold for significantly more than face value. Having said that, I suggest doing thorough research on recent sales trends before holding onto them for a long time. Some collectors are even specializing in modern rolls these days. You might be onto something! PCGS has some great resources on this.

I’d say end rolls definitely have some potential, particularly for the dimes and quarters from the last decade since minting errors tend to appear more often than not. However, be careful as condition matters! If you happen to have any MS 68 or higher grades, those might appreciate over time. I’d recommend holding onto anything that looks promising, or you can always flip through the rolls and see if there’s something special there!

@CoinGuru94, that’s great advice! I always wondered if I should check for mint errors in my rolls. I guess it’s time to scrutinize them a bit more closely. Thanks for the tip!

In my experience, coins from the last decade don’t always sell for high values unless there’s something unique about them, like a limited release or mint errors. I had a roll of the 2019-W quarters that I let go for quite a bit; the W mintmark seems to be drawing interest. So, if your rolls have similar characteristics, definitely hold on! Just don’t expect every roll to break the bank.

@RickTheCollector, that’s a really interesting perspective! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for anything with a W mintmark. It makes sense that the unique features would draw more interest.

It’s hard to predict the market value for these modern end rolls. Some say they might actually appreciate once they go out of circulation. Have you considered reaching out to local coin clubs? Sometimes they can provide insights that might not be available online. Just be aware that trends do shift over time; it’s good to stay informed!

@SilverFox84, that’s a solid idea! I haven’t been to any local coin clubs yet, but I think it would be a great opportunity to learn more and meet other collectors. Thanks for the suggestion!

Holding onto modern rolls isn’t a bad idea, especially if you see them as part of your collecting journey. There’s always value in having a diverse collection. Just remember, coin collecting should be fun, not just about profits!

One word of caution: the market can be fickle. Just because something is popular now doesn’t mean it will always hold that value. So keep that in mind! Still, if you enjoy collecting them, keep them around. It might just surprise you one day!

@MoneyMaker, you make a valid point! I think balancing enjoyment with the potential for value is key. After all, the thrill of the hunt is part of the fun!

Just to add to this, I recently sold a few end rolls that I held onto for years, and I was surprised at how much I could get for some of them, especially as they became less common. Always keep track of current trends, and you might be pleasantly surprised down the line! Have you checked recent sales on NGC? They often have great auction results listed.

I’ve been collecting for over three decades and must say that the interest in modern coins is fascinating. While I often focus on classic pieces, I won’t discourage anyone from collecting what’s meaningful to them. Collect what you love, and values will follow—with time, perhaps!
