Looking for advice: Is it better to hold onto my CC dollars long-term, or should I consider selling some now?

Hey everyone! I recently came into possession of a few CC dollars from the Carson City Mint, and I’ve been wrestling with the decision of whether to hold onto them for the long haul or to cash in some while the market seems strong.

I’ve done quite a bit of research, and it seems like the demand for CC coins has been on the rise lately, especially for those in good condition. Mine are in decent shape—no major scratches or tarnish, but they’re not in the absolute top tier either. A few collectors I’ve chatted with believe these could become even more valuable as time goes on, but I’m also aware that markets can be unpredictable.

What’s your take? Should I play the long game with these CC dollars or take advantage of the current market? Have any of you faced a similar dilemma? How did you decide? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Hey @CoinHustler23! I totally understand your dilemma. Holding onto your CC dollars can be a smart move if you believe in their long-term value. The market can indeed be unpredictable, but if your coins are in decent shape, they may appreciate over time. I’ve held onto a few CC dollars from 1878, and they’ve doubled in value over the past few years! Market trends tend to favor historical significance, and CC coins are in high demand among collectors.

That said, it may be wise to sell a few now while the demand is high, especially if you have bills or other investments in mind. Consider the following factors before deciding:

  • Current market trends
  • Your personal financial situation
  • Expected future demand for CC coins
Ultimately, you know your collection best!

Thanks for the insights, @NumisNerd79! It’s good to hear success stories. I’m leaning towards holding some and maybe selling a couple to reinvest. It’s always a gamble! Even if they’re not perfect, I feel like there’s a real charm to the CC dollars.

I suggest considering a hybrid approach, @CoinHustler23. Hold some for the long-term, but definitely think about selling others to capitalize on the current hype. I’ve made a decent profit by selling a few coins during spikes and kept the rest for my collection. Keep an eye on prices and trends on sites like PCGS and NGC to time your sales.

Agreed with you, @SilverStacker88! It’s all about finding that balance. If the market is favorable, even coins that are not perfect can still fetch a good price. But remember to get your coins graded first if you plan to sell. It makes a difference in perceived value! Have you thought about which coins you might sell?

From my experience, selling some CC dollars now could be wise! The market is indeed favorable, and the interest in CC coins seems to be spiking thanks to collectors looking for historical pieces. The last few auctions have shown strong results for CC coins. Just keep an eye out for any upcoming market dips or changes. You could also consider joining US Mint newsletters for updates!

Short answer: hold! But it’s also very personal. I once let go of a nice CC dollar, and I regretted it ever since. Sentimental value matters, at least to me! What’s your emotional attachment to these coins?

@CoinCollectorJoe, I totally get what you mean! There is a history and charm to these coins that makes it hard to part with them. I think I might develop a stronger emotional connection as I learn more about them.
