Hey fellow collectors! I recently dove deep into the world of PR70 coins and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I managed to snag a few stunning pieces for my collection, including a 2017 Silver Eagle that is just immaculate. The luster and detail are mind-blowing, and it’s definitely nice to have it sitting pretty in my display case.

I know these coins come with a hefty price tag, often making collectors hesitant, but there’s a unique satisfaction in owning a perfect grade piece. I’ve been doing some research on the market trends for PR70s, and it seems they hold their value surprisingly well. However, I’m curious about everyone else’s experience. Do you find joy in collecting these high-grade coins, or do you think the premiums are over the top?

Let’s share our stories! What PR70 coins do you cherish most, and how do you feel about their market value compared to their aesthetics? Any tips for those of us on the fence about making a purchase? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I absolutely get where you’re coming from! Collecting PR70 coins has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me. My most prized possession is a 2020-W American Silver Eagle that I found in a tiny shop during a road trip. The beauty and perfection of the coin still blow me away. I check on it almost daily! The intricate details and the way it reflects light are something you just don’t see in lower grades. Plus, I’ve noticed that these coins are surprisingly resilient in terms of value. I did some research, and coins graded PR70 often appreciate over time, especially limited editions. If you haven’t checked out the PCGS and NGC sites for market trends, I highly recommend it. It’ll give you great insights!

I’ve gotta say, I feel a mix of joy and frustration. I love PR70 coins—my 2018 Proof American Gold Eagle is a standout item for me—but the prices can be a bit much. It sometimes feels like the joy of collecting is overshadowed by the financial side. I understand the allure of having something perfect, though; the aesthetic pleasure is hard to beat. However, I sometimes think I could get a similar aesthetic enjoyment from a lower-grade coin without breaking the bank. Has anyone else felt this way? Anyone else bargain hunting?

Totally understand your perspective, CollectorDan_24! I started with a more budget-friendly approach, focusing on quality over quantity. It’s a good strategy! But once I snagged a PR70 2021 Silver Maple Leaf, I was hooked on the perfection! It’s a tough balance for sure. I guess it comes down to what you value more in your collection—looks or value. What do you all think about picking up lesser grades? Are they worth it for the aesthetic satisfaction?

I appreciate everyone’s opinions! It’s such a nuanced topic, isn’t it? It feels like there’s a different joy in having a flawless coin, but I totally get that the financial stress can be a turn-off. CollectorDan_24, have you found particular models where the aesthetic still shines but the price is a bit lower? That might help some of us on a budget! :dart:

I’ve found it to be a niche market! I mainly collect PR70s, and while some definitely make me pause due to their prices, the true satisfaction comes from their beauty and rarity. Plus, there’s something about owning a coin that has achieved a perfect grade; it feels like owning a piece of art! I focus on coins from mint sets that are harder to find in PR70. Always exciting to hunt them down!

I second that! The thrill of the hunt for PR70 coins is incomparable. I’ve built my collection mainly around commemorative coins, and having them in perfect condition adds to their history. Have you checked out the latest US Mint catalogs? Some striking new releases are coming out that might surprise collectors looking for unique PR70s.
