Hey fellow collectors! Lately, I’ve been diving deeper into the world of rare and error coins, and I’ve had some pretty exciting finds in my collection. I’m always on the lookout for new opportunities to expand my knowledge and see what’s out there, and I’m curious about any coin shows that specifically cater to our niche.
So, my question to you all is: Are there particular coin shows that are known for focusing on rare or error coins? I’ve come across a few mentions of the FUN Show and the Baltimore Expo, but I’m keen to hear your personal experiences. What makes these shows worth attending?
I’ve also done some research into error coins and I’m particularly fascinated by die varieties and repunched mint marks. If any of you have attended specialized shows, I’d love to know what gems you’ve uncovered and if you’ve met other collectors who share your passion for these unique pieces. Are there any upcoming shows that you’re especially excited about? Let’s share some tips and maybe even plan to meet up at a show!
Great topic, CoinHunter42! I highly recommend the FUN Show in Florida, which is a premier event for collectors focusing on rare and error coins. I’ve attended it for the past five years, and each time I find unique pieces like double die cents and repunched mint marks. The variety of dealers and the sheer number of coins is mind-blowing! What I love most is the opportunity to meet fellow collectors who share your interests. I discovered some fascinating die varieties by just chatting with others at their booths. Plus, the educational panels are a great way to learn and stay updated on trends in the market. Make sure to check out the dealer’s list before you go to maximize your time. What types of error coins are you most interested in?
Happy hunting!

Don’t forget the Baltimore Expo! It’s another must-see for rare and error coin enthusiasts. The last time I went, I stumbled upon a beautiful 1884-O Morgan dollar with a fantastic die crack. The variety of coins on display was extensive, and you have a good chance of finding rare pieces that aren’t available online. Plus, it’s a great place to network!
I did see some AU-58 Morgan dollars that were priced surprisingly well.
Pro tip: Try to get a sneak peek at the exhibits before the crowds show up!

Thanks, SilverSearcher78! The Baltimore Expo sounds fantastic. I’ve heard good things about it from fellow collectors. I’m hoping to find some error coins, specifically off-center strikes. Have you ever come across any cool finds there?
I love that thrill of the hunt at these shows!

For sure! I found a stunning off-center penny there last year which really boosted my collection. The vendors sometimes don’t have a lot of information on error coins, but if you ask them, they may reveal some hidden gems. You definitely want to arrive early and scope out the place!
Here’s hoping we both find something amazing at the next show!

I think the NGC website has a great list of upcoming shows! Make sure to check it out to see if there are any local events near you, CoinHunter42. I’ve discovered so many great local coin shows through their site. It’s amazing how many error coin specialists will set up booths at smaller events!

Thanks for that tip! I will definitely check out the NGC site to find some local shows. It’d be great to meet other collectors and maybe find some error coins that I wouldn’t usually come across. As someone who appreciates the complexities of error coins, this could be a game-changer for my collection!

I highly suggest attending any of the shows in San Francisco! They often have a section dedicated to rare and error coins, like the US Mint booth during the shows. Keep an eye out for local groups that often showcase coins that collectors are looking for. I’ve made some amazing connections that way!

Absolutely! At the last San Francisco show, I found a rare 1796 Draped Bust dollar that was astonishing. The dealer had no idea the value before I stopped by. It’s these unexpected discoveries that really fuel my passion for coin collecting.
Just remember to keep an eye out for any AU-58 or better grades; those are often prime targets for collectors!

Don’t forget about the Chicago World’s Fair of Money! It’s a massive event that features everything from error coins to high-end collectibles. I found my MS-67 during one of the auctions there. The energy is incredible, and you really feel the passion in the air. If you’re serious about upgrading your collection, this is an event you can’t miss!
