  1. sounds good... man i can't stand those cleaned coins.. but something tells me that there's gotta be some people out there that love it and would consider it a score. that's inexperience or they're 85 years old or something, so nevermind that.. it's just painful to look at a really detailed coin with an unnatural look to it.. and selling them feels like a gamble every time...

especially those vf/xf black coins... or with the red 'paint' look... or with the 'gold' streaks all over it..... speaking of lincolns.

  2. With a coin of this rarity, the particular certification company doesn't matter all that much (among the big 4) as the rarity will drive the price, not who certified it.  So then the only thing the owner has to be concerned about is the longterm protection of the coin.  With that in mind, many people think that the ICG does the best job of protecting coins from tarnishing, since they use the intercept shields in thier slabs.  I'm not saying this is absolutly the reason he chose them, but it is something to consider...

i hear ya,,, but i bet ya anything a pcgs label or even ngc would bring in at least another $1... that's just how conditioned we are at this point i think. from what i've seen it's sad but true.. i just had 8 morgans on ebay, all were ngc except one was ntc.. that was the only one that didn't sell.

if igc sent an au58 back to me i might see what the others would say... which, like you said, wouldn't matter too much i suppose.. the rarity is what'll drive this one regardless.. but still, i wonder what went on behind the scenes here..

  3. his eyes are mezmorizing.... and i like german coins more than any other world coins.. except canadian.. are they considered worldly dark siders even....

nice avatar.. i've seen that movie way too many times :ninja: gotta love it

  4. Unless it is yesterday's 68 and not tomorrow's 68 which are both probably much different than last year's 68 or next year's 68. ;)

yeah yah never know what'll happen but i think paying for that number is worth it if you know you can resell it for more than you paid for it at any given moment.. and if you can afford to hang onto it, values in that range get more action than the 67.... save it for a couple decades and buy a new car with your $1500 investment... one year even, pay a few bills for free...

just for collection's sake... forget it, i'd go for the 67 in a heartbeat :ninja: we all know that the only difference is that dumb number on the plastic....

  5. That's really neat. Way too pricey for me, but neat.

How's life at the coin store doing? Anything exciting?

what's happenin Art... the coin shop thing is going superfantastic at least..., i finally held a gauden in my hand the other day.. felt good. then this platinum popped up and i was just in awe.. so about a month into it i'm having fun, and i haven't forgotten about your IHC obsession, or the new found large cent infliction.. in fact i looked at a few of the lg cents yesterday but they were all lower grade so i didnt bother pming ya... but i dunno, there are some ag/g 1802-30's and up in there if you're interested, but there should be better ones somewhere. i've yet to dive into the IHC stash so i still dont know whats here.. wrapping up the lincolns now, we're doing jeff's next, and indians after that.. so i'll hunt ya down once that happens for sure....

    28plain.. i hear ya

  6. i guess time magazine or something like newsweek or whatever had a picture of a 1967 D lincoln on the cover in 1967.... i never found out if it ever existed or not....

i vaguely remember hearing about this '74.. but not really, so i'll just say it's news to me ;) all kinds of good stuff hitting the news lately..

did i hear about a 1963 kennedy once upon a time.... ;):ninja:

i wish i had a roll of aluminum 1974 pennies...

  7. They revolve around two major catagories, one, the coins just have no appreciable difference to the naked eye, and two, the money involved is just not worth it.  A let's face it, none of us would buy a 1943 MS68 Steel Cent in a new-mistrust holder simply because the possibility of it being over graded by just one point is high and that one point overgrade would cost you $1,700.

the 68 raises the eyebrow a little bit higher, and the price.. year after year after year... if you buy a 68 you sell a 68, you have a 68.. a 68 is a 68 is a 68 i'd pay $1400.....

  8. i've only been burned once in 8 years of buying stuff online and it was on a yahoo auction about 7 years ago. paid 25 bucks for a record that i never, ever got. that was the first time i used yahoo auctions even.. never went back until a month or two ago and bid on a '22 plain lincoln, and turned out to be a scam.. so i don't venture into yahooland too often, i think the whole yahoo thing in general is pretty lame anyway. but it is my preferred search engine i'll give em that..

too bad too cuz free auctions sounds nice.. it's almost tempting

ebay and paypal are getting too big
