Neat lookin quarter

Recommended Posts

A friend at work brought me this quarter. My first thougfht(hope) was missing clad layer. I quickly decided its not. The entire coin is a copper color and looks neat. I can see no sign of sandwiching on the edge but the thickness is regular and the weight is only minutely off. 5.61Grams. I've come to the conclusion that the coin has been stained in some way. Its not like the quarters I dig while detecting that have been in the ground.

I scanned it with a quarter from my pocket to show the color.

The pic looks kinda brown but the coin has a pinkish copper color in hand.

The date is 1998.

Looks like a muriatic acid quarter to me. I have a bunch of coins like that at one time. They all ended up the way from sitting in a plastic tray that carried acid for my pool.

Depending upon where they were buried,  many of my clad coins that have been found with a metal detector look like this.

Have Fun,

Bill

I've dug well over 1000 quarters with my detector and this one does not look like its been in the ground. The pinkish copper color is much nicer than the pic shows.
