Art
If I use the chart of countries that are issuing Euros from our World Coin Forum and count the years of issue, I come up with 84 separate 2€ coins to have one from each country for each year. Now I am not saying that I'm going to try to put this set togeher, but I was wondering about it. Did each of the countries from the list really issue a distinct set of coins in each of the years since they started. For example, a book that I have shows Italy as issuing 2€ coins in each year but they only show a single picture to illustrate. So do all of the coins have the same design and a different year on them. Or is the year of issue not indicated? Or? Any info would help. Thanks. tabbs
If I use the chart of countries that are issuing Euros from our World Coin Forum and count the years of issue, I come up with 84 separate 2€ coins to have one from each country for each year. Maybe I did not quite understand your question, but as for €2 circulation coins, every euro country has exactly one type. Thus there are 15 different types (not counting different mint marks) per year. These designs do not change except maybe if a depicted monarch dies. In addition to that, several euro countries issue commemorative €2 coins. In some cases these "replace" the regular issues, in others both the regular piece and the commem are minted. Here is a table (not official but pretty accurate) that lists the mintages: http://www.euro-auflagen.de/index.php?lang=en (Edit) Guess I now know what you mean. What makes calculating the number a little difficult is that some of the €2 circulation issues were issued for mint sets only - example: Belgium 2001. Do you want to count those or not? Art
Christian , Thanks for the website and info. If I'm reading the chart correctly some countries issued only the commemorative 2€ in a given year and some issued both the commem and regular issue. That helps. I'm trying to define what a set of circulating 2€ coins would be, so that I can put together an album if I decide to put together a collection. You said some countries issued the 2€ only in their mint sets some years. Is there a list of those countries and dates available?
Trantor_3
I dug this up in another thread, started by Bobbycoin and edited it slightly: OK, the Netherlands. Started minting euro coins in 1999. Only one mint, yet we do have a mint mark and a mint master mark. there are several mint master marks by now, but only one per year, so finding the right years will give you the mint master marks as well. mintage figures: year denomination mintage figures 1999 0.01 47,800,000 0.02 109,000,000 0.05 213,000,000 0.10 149,700,000 0.20 86,500,000 0.50 99,600,000 1.00 63,500,000 2.00 9,900,000 2000 0.01 276,800,000 0.02 122,000,000 0.05 184,200,000 0.10 156,700,000 0.20 67,500,000 0.50 87,000,000 1.00 62,800,000 2.00 24,400,000 2001 0.01 179,300,000 0.02 145,800,000 0.05 205,900,000 0.10 193,500,000 0.20 97,600,000 0.50 94,500,000 1.00 67,900,000 2.00 140,500,000 2002 0.01 800,000 (not in circulation) 0.02 53,100,000 0.05 900,000 (not in circulation) 0.10 800,000 (not in circulation) 0.20 51,200,000 0.50 80,900,000 1.00 20,100,000 2.00 37,200,000 10.00 Royal Marriage 1,088,000 2003 0.01 58,100,000 0.02 151,200,000 0.05 1,400,000 (not in circulation) 0.10 1,200,000 (not in circulation) 0.20 58,200,000 0.50 1,200,000 (not in circulation) 1.00 1,400,000 (not in circulation) 2.00 1,200,000 (not in circulation) 5.00 van Gogh 1,100,000 2004 0.01 113,900,000 0.02 115,700,000 0.05 400,000 0.10 400,000 0.20 20,500,000 0.50 300,000 1.00 300,000 2.00 300,000 5.00 Enlargement EU 655,000 5.00 Kingdom Coin 655,000 10.00 Royal Birth 1,050,000 2005 0.01 - 0.02 - 0.05 - 0.10 - 0.20 - 0.50 - 1.00 - 2.00 - 5.00 Peace Fiver - 10.00 Royal Aniversary - Mintage figures for 2005 are not known yet. The low mintage number denominations in 2004 are probably not brought into circulation, I can't find that info. Denominations in a certain year that were not brought into circualtion, are only available in mint sets and proof sets. The occasional 5 and 10 euro coins that are listed are silver coins. Enough info, bobby?? Getting Dutch €2 coins from 1999 - 2002 will be no problem, the newer ones are not found in circulation.
tabbs
2003 (...) 2.00 (...) 1,200,000 (not in circulation) Strange ... at least a few should show up in circulation. I just had a look at the 2006 issue of the Schön euro catalog, and that lists different mintage figures than the mint's own annual report. For 2003 it says that 749,000 "regular" €2 coins were made, plus 231,103 BU pieces plus 12,000 proof coins. That would be a total of about 1 million. Assuming that the Schön data are correct, there should still be roughly 750,000 in circulation - and assuming that the KNM's jaarverslag is right, the number may even be higher. Do you all hoard them? Christian
banivechi
Maybe all of these coins are hoarded... Look for example at the German 2 Euro 2006 Holstentor: every letter (A, D, F, G, J) are issued in 2,100,000 to 3,600,000 pieces and theoretically these are in circulation right now. I´ve founded only two (D - because I am in Munchen and only in february!) and I`ve bought a complete set at face value from Numismata coin show. I think 99% of these coins are already hoarded... tabbs
You said some countries issued the 2€ only in their mint sets some years. Is there a list of those countries and dates available? Don‘t think there is an official list from, say, the European Commission or the ECB. But check the "2 Euro" and "2 Euro CC" columns of that table. If they both have "---" instead of a mintage figure, that means that neither the regular €2 coin nor a commemorative piece was issued for general circulation. These are the €2 coins that the Schön catalog lists as "from sets only": BE 1999 BE 2001 DE 2004 (F) DE 2004 (G) FR 2003 FR 2004 GR 2004 MC 2004 SM 2003 SM 2004 SM 2004 CC Borghesi VA ... basically all of them (I did not list any 2005 and 2006 issues since the official mintage figures are in most cases not available yet.) I think 99% of these coins are already hoarded... Quite possibly so ... I even know a few people on the US who have them, hehe. By the way, you can safely double those mintage figures for the Schleswig-Holstein coins. But of course even such a "high" number of pieces is low compared to the total number of €2 pieces in circulation. Christian
Art
Thanks to everyone. So far my idea of a €2 collection is taking shape. I'm not sure that I'm going to to after a "year" set, but may do a type set for the circulation issues along with my commemorative set.
