When milled coins finally banished hammered, as it was a triumph of technology (admittedly milled coins had been around a century at that point but it wasn't until 1662 that they actually won out). Which was the bigger jump? Hand held dies and a hammer switching to machines, or machines going steam powered. You could argue it either way I suppose.
