tabbs
To commemorate Samuel Beckett (who was born 100 years ago) Ireland will not only issue a silver coin but also a gold piece. Both coins show Beckett and a scene from his most famous work "Waiting for Godot". http://www.numismatico.de/files/ir10silber_908.jpg €10 (silver 925) Ø 38.6 mm mintage 35,000 http://www.numismatico.de/files/ir20gold1_125.jpg €20 (gold 999) Ø 13.3 mm mintage 20,000 The other side of the coins shows the Irish harp, the country name in Irish (Eire), the year 2006 and the inscription "Samuel Beckett 1906-1989". tabbs
13.3 mm, wow, that's a small coin! Indeed. But maybe more affordable than a huge one ... Here is an image of the silver coin right next to the gold piece: http://www.numismatico.de/files/irdoppel_645.jpg Don't know exactly when the two will be available. Probably in April/May ... tabbs
More about the coins (which "will be launched on 26 April 2006 and sales will commence on 1 May 2006") can be found here: http://www.centralbank.ie/frame_main.asp?p...&nv=ncn_nav.asp A little expensive, I think. Don't know yet what to do ... Christian
