K-137 Spottmunze auf Russland-1914 (Scoff medal to Russia)

1914, Cast Bronze, 58mm, VZ


Obverse: The German eagle attacks a three-headed hydra, consisting of the Russian bear, French coq and the English unicorn.


Reverse: "Russland und seine henkergesellen-der raudigen hydra raubgierig Bellen an deutschem Geistesollen zerschellen" (Russia and her hangmen companions of the bloodthirsty Hydra are rapaciously barking, but shall be destroyed by the German spirit).

When the medals were originally made, how were they offered for sale?


Goetz created catalogs with available material listed for sale. He also began to get quite a following when he started producing the satirical series from WWI. Word of mouth via numismatic circles also helped.
