Ian Posted March 3, 2006 Report Share Posted March 3, 2006 A silver didrachm from Sparta's one and only colony in Magna Graecia, the city of Tarentum. One of the most successful of the Greek colonies. This coin (circa 280 bc) depicts Taras, son of Poseidon on the back of a dolphin. Nike presenting victory laurels to a rider. It weighs in at 8.4 gms and is in pretty good nick for its age. I need to re-scan it though methinks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
