Out of curiosity does anyone ever take a look at the bluebook values? Sure makes our stuff look cheap lol. 500,000 worth in redbook might get you 375,000 blue book prices :ninja:

Well, since this is a fantasy, I would buy what I would love to have, though they may not necessarily be the best performers in the 2007 redbook.  Here goes:

1907 HR WR $20 MS-63 $26,500 > 29,500

1908-D WM $20 MS-63 $1,200 > 1,450

1920-S $20 MS-63 $65,000 > 72,500

1921 $20 MS-63 $125,000 > 175,000

1923-D $20 MS-63 $750 > 900

1924-D $20 MS-63 $7,500 > 8,000

1925 $20 MS-63 $750 > 900

1925-D $20 MS-63 $9,500 > 11,000

1926-D $20 MS-63 $22,500 > 30,000

1926-S $20 MS-63 $4,500 > 5,000

1927-S $20 MS-63 $51,000 > 52,500

1929 $20 MS-63 $22,500 > 25,000

1930-S $20 MS-63 $52,500 > 95,000

1931  $20 MS-63 $32,500 > 47,500

1931-D $20 MS-63 $34,500 > 47,500

1932 $20 MS-63 $31,500 > 40,000

That would complete my set with the exception of the 27-D and 33 for $487,700.  With the change I would buy 12 1916-S $20 MS-63 @$1,000 (1,050) each and an 1841 $10 in VF-20 for $300 (350).  I have the spiral bound 2006 Redbook and the Saints are all on pages 258-261 and the $10 is on page 248.

Very fun contest!!!

By my calculations I increased my portfolio to $641,750! Maybe not the best, but a 28.4% return for a year. Of course since I still need most of those coins I don't know whether to laugh or cry! :ninja:

I would like the Augustus Humbert/US Assayer 20 dollar gold in Pr-65. A PGCS Pr.-65 sold for 1.3mil. Seeing how I'm 13, by the time I reach of age, that baby should do me good.

I had a list of about 14 coins, but narrowed the ones I wanted down to these for the greatest potential...

Standing Liberty Quarters

1916  in EF40 $11,000 on page 165,  Qty of 6 for $66,000

1918\7-S in EF40  $5,500 on page 166,  Qty of 20 for $110,000

Barber Half

1904-S in AU50  $1,500 on page 192,  Qty of 50 for $75,000

Seated Liberty Dollar

1858 in VG8  $3,000 on page 208,  Qty of 51 for $153,000

Trade Dollar

1878-CC in AU50  $3,200 on page 210,  Qty of 30 for $96,000

And I spent every last cent I had :ninja:

I made $78,400 or 15.68 % on the $500K

I got the new 2007 book and here are the prices for all coins in the contest.

2005 Silver Eagle  UNC $14

1909 D Saint Gaudens VF  $625

So I end up with 900*$625 = $562500 + (2291*$14) = $594574

An 18.9% gain, I outpaced inflation :ninja:

2005 Silver Eagle  UNC $14

I made about $80k or so. But this also shows you that you should not really rely on "annual" "pricing" models like the Red/Blue Books. Prices are very versatile. The $14 per coin was based on a $7-$8 silver spot pricing + premium. Selling your Silver Eagles today for $14 each would be really....stupid? You should be able to get spot + premium, and since spot is over $14.....

But, then people wouldn't buy the Red/Blue Books if they were released monthly or weekly like the CDN. It would be best if there were an at least quarterly version of a Coin Collector's Newsletter showing current rather than accumulative retail prices. The red book is more an historical analysis rather than a market analysis. Even some of the one's like the gold would probably sell much higher than the Red Book is showing.

Neat game though :ninja: Do we know who the winner is yet?

I haven't gotten a 2007 Red Book yet, so I can't revalue my purchases. I'm probably the winner though. :ninja:

(2,006) 1921-D Dimes VG x $125.00 = ...............$250,750

(2,005) 2005 Silver Eagles Unc. x $14= .............$ 28,070

(62) 1858 Seated Liberty Dollars VG x $3,400 = $210,800

(10) 1909-D St. Gaudens $20 x $625= ............... $ 6,250

(6) 1894-S Morgans x $1,900 = .......................... $ 11,400

GRAND TOTAL..................................................... $507,270

That's a rather low profit of only 1.4%, compared to the rest.

Now, there's something strange going on.

In your original post, you mentioned the following:

(6) 1894-S Morgans x $9,000 = .......................... $ 54,000 [64]

I can't find any 1894-S Morgan in my 2006 redbook with a value even near $9000, however, the 1894 in ms-64 was $9,000 so I assume you meant that one...

That will chage your list to:

(2,006) 1921-D Dimes VG x $125.00 = ...............$250,750

(2,005) 2005 Silver Eagles Unc. x $14= .............$ 28,070

(62) 1858 Seated Liberty Dollars VG x $3,400 = $210,800

(10) 1909-D St. Gaudens $20 x $625= ............... $ 6,250

(6) 1894-S Morgans x $10,000 = .......................... $ 100,000

GRAND TOTAL..................................................... $595,870

And now it's a profit of 19.17%, a lot better

 it appears to be listed for US$ 1,000,000 in the 2007 edition ;)

that's 100% up in one year

$714,260....a porfit of $214,260

Not too shabby.

By my calculations I increased my portfolio to $641,750!  Maybe not the best, but a 28.4% return for a year.

GRAND TOTAL..................................................... $595,870

And now it's a profit of 19.2%, a lot better

So I end up with 900*$625 = $562500 + (2291*$14)  = $594574

An 18.9% gain, I outpaced inflation  :ninja:

I made about $80k or so.

I made $78,400 or 15.68 % on the $500K

+ $4 left over from the 500,000, what brings the total to $534,482.00, a profit of 6.9%

Everyone seems to have done well. At least no one is in the Red. It would seem that Trantor_3 is our winner as he doubled his money... with one coin :ninja:

If anyone else made more then a $500,000 profit let me know. I didnt do any math. If no one else claims it this week, the Chunk o' silver.... thats worth almost $4 more now then it was when I listed the contest.... will be sent off to Erik.

Thanks to Everyone For Playing.

I think I will keep the game going, more details later.
