mmarotta
I seem to be over a meager limit for posting pictures. How do you all get away with it? Anyway... You can find these coins from HARUN AL RASHID from Joel Anderson (http://www.joelscoins.com/iraq.htm) and VCoins sellers and so on. (Just search for HARUN.) These coins say on one side: THERE IS NO GOD BUT GOD. "Allah illilah allah." And on the other side: MOHAMMED IS THE PROPHET OF GOD. "Mohammed rasul allah." (I think I have that right. I had one of these coins and a programmer from Syria helped me with the Kufic and then I ran the drill again with Robert Hoge of the ANA. I just doublechecked on VCoins, but disagree with the attribution cited in CanMoose's sale.) Typical price is 20 dollars. Harun al-Rashid was the caliph of Baghdad for whom the 1001 Nights Fantastic were told by Shaharazad. His librarian was Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi -- in whose name, al-Khwarizmi, we still have the ALGORITHM. That is a lot of history for a double sawbuck. That's pretty cool. I think they were done building most of the large churches by the time that style became prevalent.
