bill
They are all nice, but the 1931 5 Lati is a classic in my opinion. I like the portrait and how the scroll defines the field. It feels well balanced. The reverse is a wonderful complement to the obverse design. The 2005 1 Lats makes interesting use of the limitations of the circular flan to construct and execute an interesting design. It is an interesting contrast in how modern designers view the possibilities of the coin as a medium for thir art, although I note it lacks basic things like denomination in favor of design (okay, I see from another post how the denomination is indicated and the country is one the edge -- still a good example of the freedom of modern design).
