vicpasta
I recently found this 1985 P quarter that is what I think is a partial collar coin. The bottom half of the obverse of the coin has about 1 mm of extra metal on the border. Could my quarter be worth more than 25 cents?

LostDutchman
welcome to our happy little home it could be a few things....it could be a partial collar....it could be an excessive pressure strike....
syzygy
Does it look like this one... of course I suppose I could just wait until you post it
LostDutchman
that is an uncentered broadstrike

vicpasta
due to my stupid computer, I could not load the picture onto the computer. As an alternative, I have made a terrible looking bitmap image of the quarter.

LostDutchman
that's an awesome drawing......hahaha! looks like an broadstrike to me...but without a pic of the coin itself i can't be %
syzygy
Looks like a slightly off center strike - the collar holding the coin rim in place when the dies strike sometimes springs out a bit .... you will not be retiring early or anything, but it is worth keeping... vicpasta
One thing I forgot to say: an irregular shape does not appear noticeable on the reverse of the coin, only the obverse.
LostDutchman
AHHHH that is a misaligned die error....that happens when one of the dies swings out of place and continues to stamp out coins

syzygy
yes? no? Which one is it?! The 1985 quarter that I posted is an off-centered broadstruck, not a misaligned die. Your coin is *probably* similar - unless the reverse is centered and only the obverse if off-centered. At least that is my opinion.
syzygy
One thing I forgot to say: an irregular shape does not appear noticeable on the reverse of the coin, only the obverse. Then agreed, sounds like a misaligned die. Worth keeping, but not a lot of $$$

LostDutchman
got a pic of the reverse?? if it is a misaligned die error they are common and the coin would be worth in the $5 range
vicpasta
the reverse of the coin is absolutely normal.
LostDutchman
then it is a minor misaligned die error
