Major coin find in Sweden

More than 300 years ago, the Swedish navy ship "Kronan" exploded in the Baltic Sea. This year more than 6000 coins were found in what was left of it.

When the Kronan sank, only 40 of the 800 people on board survived. Since that time, the remnants have been on the ground of the Baltic Sea. About 25 years ago the ship was discovered again, and since then various objects have been found there, from cannons to musical instruments.

Now 6500 coins have been unearthed (well, unsea-ed). That is probably the largest single coin find ever made in Sweden. Most of the coins are silver pieces. Apparently they were to be used for salary payments.
