Yes, nice pieces. But expensive ... pretty much like a grand cru.  :ninja:

Except when I was young I bought dozens of grand cru to find out that their advertised holding time of 10 years was annilated by the bad corks in the neck of the bottle

So I poored more grand cru turned bad down the drain then I ever drank

The french monnaie de paris is a money machine trying to find the right equilibrium between too may coins at high prices every year and too large and few coins every year

Their problem is very symbolically signalised by the fact that 90% of the sellers of their coins are german ebay vendors

They have been trying to sell Lance Amstrong winning a tour de france now for about six months and notwitstanding a limit of about 3500 coins they are available weekly on ebay germany

What, a Lance Armstrong coin from the French mint? Have not seen that yet ... Or are you referring to the Tour de France centennial pieces from 2003?

As for the wine, the Monnaie de Paris even made a series of 24 medals dedicated to the Crus Classés: http://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/actualite/medaillesvin.htm

Quote from http://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/actualite/presse4.pdf ... "We believe Asia and North America will be very receptive to them."

Who knows ... some general "hommage aux femmes" piece maybe? :ninja: But apart from the famous Semeuse, we already had "La Liberté guidant le peuple" (Delacroix), Venus de Milo, La Source (Ingres), Maja Vestida (Goya) and, from the (poorly done IMO) "Centenaire du Cinéma" series, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, Romy Schneider. In terms of music, that seems to be more difficult. All I know is a Mozart coin, and one that shows a trumpet player who looks a lot like Louis Armstrong ...

I bought the one ounce Lance Armstrong close to the price of gold whereas a lot of collectors bought the half ounce way over gold

I get this sickening reply my jpeg is too big jesus

the winner of 1903 is in mirror upside down the winner of 2003 lance armstrong is on the top of the coin

Perhaps it would be easier to upload your images at www.omnicoin.com (or something like www.imageshack.us maybe) and then post the link here? Anyway, I am not sure whether that is actually supposed to be Armstrong. That series was issued very early in 2003.

In any case, the mintage figures are kind of odd anyway. The €50 gold coin (1 oz), for example, has a maximum authorized mintage of 5,000 - but according to my catalog only 2,000 pieces have been issued so far. I wonder if the MdP simply stops issuing such a piece if there is hardly any further demand (in some cases, the ultimate "tirages réels" http://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/presse/index.htm are actually below the max) - or if they simply sell the remaining pieces in bulk and at a lower price ...

This is the 2003 winner with in mirror image the 1903 winner

Since Armstrong won so many in a row it must be Armstrong who is depicted

I think the monnaie de paris could not sell their coins at the asking price and therefore their new strategy seems to be coins with a max of 99 pieces
