Jan
Hi guys, first off I am new. My question is, is it true that the 2005 Canadian Loonie has a mintage of only 3000? I'm not talking about the Terry Fox Loonie, I mean the regular 2005 Loonies. Thanks if anyone knows the answer to this question.
ccg
Welcome to CoinPeople, Jan! In response to your question, no. I'm not sure where that number came from, it probably refers perhaps to the speical-wrapper rolls.
Jan
Hi ccg. Does that stand for Canadian Coin Guru? Lol if it doesn't then I will feel silly. Anyway, the info for the mintage of only 3000 came from the RCM website: here. Maybe it was typo or something.
ccg
Very close, g for guy. As I thought, yes, those are "limited edition" wrapped rolls. So the mintage applies for coins in those rolls, rather than generic circulation rolls. Seems like the mint is a bit ambigous in its description. The 2005 was struck for general circulation, and the total mitage at the end of the year should be in the hundreds of thousands, if not into the millions. Tiffibunny
Wow, that would be cool since I have an UNC I got in change when I was in Canada a week ago.

Jan
The lady from the mint emailed me back. My thoughts where confirmed. Indeed the 3000 mintage refers to the number of rolls created and not the number of coins minted.

Tiffibunny
It must have come right out of the roll. Didn't even have any fingerprints.
