Aetheling, are you sure you want to 'give' this coin away? :ninja: I mean, isn't this one of your "prized" coins?

 

 

Not particularly (i can get another one in future without much trouble if needs be... these things are like Morgan Dollars over here; here, there and everywhere). I re-focused back in the spring and i'm just liquidating (or in this instance giving away) the last few pieces that no longer fit. My penny collection is now focused on 899-1216, since this piece was issued in 1260 it's out by some way and didn't fit in the the collection at all.

All Long Cross pennies have that central pellet (as far as i am aware) i dunno if it's merely part of the design or perhaps it was done to aid the die makers in centering or getting each quarter the right size. Bearing in mind these coins used to be cut into halves and quarters to make up change. So each quarter would have to weight a quarter, and off centres were a very bad thing!
